Who to Sell To

The ideal customer, the deal motion, and where to lead — for NetApp® account teams and channel partners.

QIs this horizontal or vertical technology?
The technology is horizontal — any organization with data on NetApp and a policy reason to keep AI private is a candidate. We lead with three verticals because they have the sharpest pain, the clearest ROI, and the strongest regulatory push toward private AI: Healthcare, SLED, and regulated Enterprise (finance, insurance, high-tech).
QWhat does the ideal customer look like?
An organization that checks most of these boxes:
  • Already runs NetApp — or is in a storage or GPU refresh cycle.
  • Holds sensitive or regulated data it cannot send to public AI.
  • Has real per-token cost exposure, or a stalled cloud-AI project.
  • Has a department-level owner with a budget and a painful, repetitive, document-heavy workflow.

Bonus green lights: a compliance-heavy, privacy-sensitive environment; a GenAI initiative that legal has blocked; active GPU-refresh discussions.

QWhat deal shape and motion should I expect?
A land-and-expand around the AIPod Mini. Start with a single-server Small config for a proof of value in one department, then expand to HA and multi-node as more teams adopt. The AI line item pulls storage with it. Sell the outcome to the business owner; the infrastructure follows.
QWhere inside the account do I start?
Two doors. The IT / infrastructure door (CIO, storage or platform lead): “put AI on the NetApp you already own.” And the business door (CFO, revenue-cycle lead, procurement director, chief risk officer): “here is a named agent that recovers revenue, clears backlog, or cuts risk.” The business door closes faster — it is tied to an outcome and a budget.
QHow do I pivot from a storage conversation to an AI conversation?
“You already trust NetApp to store and protect this data. The next step is making it answer questions. Same platform, same controls — now with agents on top.” Frame Generate as the natural extension of the data-protection conversation you are already having.
The universal opener
“You’ve consolidated your data on NetApp. What’s stopping you from running AI directly on it?”

Then listen. The answer is almost always one of four — security, cost, skills, or compliance — and every one of those is a Generate strength.

The three launch verticals

QWhere do I lead, and what do I say first?
Each vertical below gives you the buyer, the play, and a ready-to-use opener. Most use cases start from one of 200+ pre-built agent templates, not a blank page.
Flagship · Healthcare RCM

Call the CFO or VP Revenue Cycle. Claim denials, manual appeals, and eligibility checks leak revenue, and PHI legally cannot leave the building. Agents audit claims, draft appeals, and verify eligibility inside the hospital — measurable revenue lift with HIPAA defensibility. The revenue lift funds the platform.

“How much do you write off to denied claims each year — and how many people work appeals by hand?”

Sovereignty · SLED

Call procurement or the agency CIO. Grants, permits, licensing, property tax, and collections are backlogged, manual, and bound by citizen-data-sovereignty rules. Procurement also favors fixed-cost capital purchases over metered cloud — and NetApp is already on the floor.

“Which citizen-facing process has the worst backlog — and what’s stopped you putting AI on it?”

Regulated · Enterprise

Call the CRO, CIO, or VP Engineering. Underwriting review, claims triage, regulatory reporting, contract and codebase Q&A — on data too sensitive or regulated to upload. Regulated industries need the audit trail; high-tech needs the IP protection and cost control.

“Where are your analysts reading documents that never leave your firewall?”

QWhat are the buying signals?
“We can’t send that data to the cloud.” · “Our AI pilot stalled in legal or security review.” · “Our OpenAI / Anthropic bill is getting scary.” Plus an active refresh, a lot of unstructured data, and a regulated vertical.
The best-fit signal

A storage-heavy account is the perfect account: the more data on NetApp, the stronger the case.
